President Trump Attends Daytona 500

President Trump attended and acted as the Grand Marshall for the Daytona 500. This is only the second time a sitting president has been invited to act in this capacity. Trump arrived in Air Force One, buzzing just 800 feet above the racetrack and giving NASCAR fans a rare look at the powerful aircraft. Fans chanted “U.S.A. U.S.A,” as the plane landed near the racetrack. He gave a quick, 4-minute speech before the race. Trump described the excitement and grandeur of the race, culminating with the iconic words of each Grand Marshall, “Gentlemen, start your engines.” He gave one final word over the official radio transmission to the drivers and fans, ending with, “I love your passion for this sport. I hope you enjoy the great American race! God bless you and God bless the United States of America!”

The Air Force did two flyovers during the game, one after the anthem and one right after Trump spoke to the drivers via radio. In a fantastic moment, President Trump’s motorcade led by “The Beast” did a lap around the track, leading all 40 NASCAR drivers.

Moments like these are President Trump’s sweet spot. The larger-than-life experience, iconic imagery and patriotic atmosphere reflect the theme of his term in office.
