Conservative Influencers ALX & Owen Shroyer Suspended from Twitter
Twitter purged two conservative voices on Thursday: ALX and Owen Shroyer. ALX is a well-known user on the website who creates content which is often retweeted by President Trump. Owen Shroyer is an Infowars reporter who covers a variety of hot button cultural issues. When asked by Carpe Donktom (another influencer who is retweeted by the president) how he was suspended, Shroyer said he did not receive an email from Twitter explaining why he was suspended – meaning his account was turned off manually by an employee of Twitter. Shroyer’s suspension comes right on the heels of a Media Matters hit piece attacking him for promoting a Texas “Reopen America” rally. One hour after the piece was published, Shroyer was banned. Fewer details are known about ALX’s suspension, though Carpe Donktom is in communication with him at this time.
Twitter has banned and suspended many other conservative/right-wing voices in the last few years. The list includes Gavin McInnes, Laura Loomer, Milo Yiannopoulos, Alex Jones and James Woods. This is the same Twitter which allows Leftists to doxx police officers & their families, Hollywood liberal elites to hold the bloodied head of President Trump on video (Kathy Griffin) and Hamas (terrorist organization) to run an official page.
Since 2020 is an election year, big tech will continue to crack down on influential conservative voices. President Trump needs to use his position to bring awareness when a major supporter is banned or suspended. Conservatives should advocate for social media access to be a civil right, as proposed by Will Chamberlain. We need to get behind people like Senator Josh Hawley (R-Missouri) who plan to crack down on social media tech giants who suppress voices on their platforms.
Bottom line: we need action.
